Can I keep my house and car if I file for bankruptcy?
You can keep them by filing for a Chapter 13 proceeding. A debt reorganization plan must be approved by the bankruptcy court, and your house and car must be included in that plan. Then, you'll have to make all payments in accordance with your payment plan and your agreement with the court. Your lawyer can advise you on whether they might be saved in a Chapter 7 action.
