While the Wildlife Refuge is open from 7:00 AM to 5:00 PM during the summer, the visitor center is only open during winter months due to the lack of wildlife. During this time, the visitor center is open from 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM and is a great place to learn more about the wildlife of Russell Peterson Wildlife Refuge. You can also participate in a variety of different activities while visiting the visitor center during winter months. Be sure to call ahead of time to be sure that the visitor center is open before making your trip.
Where is it found?
You’ll find Russell Peterson Wildlife Refuge right off of Highway 75 in Alpine, Idaho. It’s about a 40-minute drive from the city of Twin Falls, Idaho, and a 1-hour drive from the city of Boise, Idaho. If you’re coming from Salt Lake City, Utah, it’ll take you roughly 4 and a half hours to get to Alpine, Idaho. If you’re coming from Las Vegas, Nevada, it’ll take you roughly 5 hours to get there.

If you want to take a look at the exhibits in the Discovery Center, you’ll need to visit during the winter months. This is the best time to go and you’ll be sure to get the full experience of the center! The center is open from 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM and is located about a mile away from the Wildlife Refuge. The best way to get there is to follow the signs on Highway 75. Be sure to bring your kids and/or friends with you and make sure to leave enough time to get back to your home or hotel before the sun sets.
